I had the chance to create the cover illustration for Isthmus this spring, and it was both an honor and a stretch outside of my comfort zone. The cover showcases the flowers that bloom around Madison’s Capitol Square each year — a familiar and favorite sight, reimagined through a graphic lens.
Illustration isn’t always my default medium, but I’ve been pushing myself to grow in this area. Each project is a chance to explore new shapes, textures, and ways of seeing. This one challenged me to simplify complex forms while still capturing the vibrancy and rhythm of spring in Madison.
I’m proud of how it turned out — and even more excited to keep experimenting and evolving. Growth doesn’t come from staying comfortable, and this project reminded me that leaning into discomfort can be pretty rewarding.
